Bit zipped from bush to bush, not staying out in the open too long. He preferred to stay hidden in the shadows. After all, he didn't play well with others. Not that the social climate of Torrent Swamplands allowed for much playing in the first place. It had been a few days since anything interesting had happened around here, and Bit was looking to raise a little hell. He roamed the swamp in search of his next victim.
The bog banked to the left, and as Bit rounded the turn, he stumbled upon a group of Otamamon and Gekomon and laughed to himself. Too easy. He circled around and zoomed into a bush nearest the group. The Otamamon were lounging in the water and the Gekomon were on the bank singing, or what they called singing anyway. Bit got close to an unsuspecting Otamamon that was sitting alone in the water, a little bit away from the others. "Nightmare Syndrome" Bit whispered. The black fog encased the Otamamon and began to take effect. The Otamamon began to shake and writhe as the fear set in. She began to scream and cry, and toss and turned in the water, splashing everywhere and slamming into rocks. The others looked on in confusion and horror as their friend thrashed about. She began screaming about her parents, and how she was never loved as a child. She screamed about she was always alone and how her younger brother got all the attention. Her cries eventually became incoherent as they were drowned out by her sobs.
All the while, Bit was silently laughing to himself. He could see her past and her pain in his minds eye and was reveling in her misery. However, he was getting bored with this pitiful creature and called off his attack. The Otamamon slowly started to calm down as the terror faded and her tears stopped. She hopped over to her friends and they wrapped their fins around her, comforting her as best they could. The Gekomon began to scour the area for the source while the Otamamon calmed their recovering friend.
Bit knew that he would soon be caught and went to escape. Too late. "There he is! It's a Tapirmon!" they called out. Bit went to vanish into the trees and shrubs, but he wasn't fast enough. "Symphony Crusher!!" Two of the Gekomon attacked at the same time and hit Bit in his tail and chest. He was sent flying through the air and landed several feet away in a bush. Battered and bruised, Bit got to his feet and hovered, trying to regain his bearings. The Gekomon were hopping after him quickly, and Bit knew he couldn't take on three Adults alone. "VIRUS DELETE!!" He cried, releasing a cloud of toxic gas. He used the cover of the smokescreen to escape deeper into the swamp and away from trouble.

Bit was hiding in the bushes, licking his wounds and resting, allowing them to heal. He was grateful that the attacks were sound based and not energy or physical, or else the damage could have been so much worse. He could still move around pretty good, but not as easily as he used to. He decided to head to safer areas. He would stay hiding in the bushes, avoiding other digimon as much as possible until he healed or found help. He headed in the direction of Zhu Que, but was in no hurry. Who knew how long before he reached the city?

Let's see what was left on his list. Gekomon legs and salamandamon fire. Easy enough to get the legs but really hard to get the fire without getting burned. He straightened his hat once more as he looked around. His eyes catching the faintest of movements. Ah a native who could point him in the direction of a salamandamon.
"Ah excuse me swampland native," the soulmon said approaching the bush. "Perhaps you can point me to a salamandramon. I'm looking to collect its fire."
Just act friendly and he couldn't possibly scare the smaller digimon. Well maybe he could. Smile he reminded himself and showed his teeth in a grin.

Bit recoiled in panic when he was spotted and darted to the tree tops. "Virus Delete!" He cried as he made his way up. A smokescreen filled the area and would hopefully choke the Soulmon. Bit would attempt to use the cover of smoke not to escape, but to hide and observe. He wasn't used to being seen and he wanted to know what this creature was up to. As he moved through the branches, one of his paws snapped a twig. Bit flinched, but maybe he hadn't been heard....

"My word," the soulmon said wafting the smoke. Well that wasn't working. Also scary even when not trying to be. It made him proud really. "Oh well," he laughed and started drifting away.
It took a awhile but he heard the snapping of a branch above him. He looked up into the trees his gaze catching the same shape he saw before. It seemed his scaredy mikemon foe was more curious than scared. It made him grin his teeth yet again showing.
"Any ideas where to find a Salamadramon?" He said making no move to close the distance. Instead he started floating away again. Treating his cautious companion as just that. A companion. "Oh and maybe a gekomon nest. Magic is only one part talent and ninety-nine resources."

Bit was upset that he had been discovered. This Soulmon seemed innocent enough, but that's how they get you. They lull you into a false sense of security and then strike! He wasn't going to end up like Echo.
Bit was preparing an attack to escape when something the Soulmon said caught his attention. He was looking for Gekomon, huh? Well, then. This seemed like the perfect chance for revenge against his attackers. Bit hopped down to the ground, in plain sight of the Soulmon.
"I don't know about any Salamandramon, but I know where you can find all the Gekomon you could want! I was just ambushed by several of them about a mile from here. Tell you want. I'll take you to them, if you help me get revenge. I couldn't beat them on my own and they kicked my ass. Well, they would have if I had one." Bit chuckled at his own joke. "So, do we have a deal?" Bit stood his ground, but was still cautious. He would be prepared to attack should this Soulmon get any ideas.

"Ah revenge a simple but effective emotion," the Soulmon said smiling as the Tapirmon came down. "I approve wholeheartedly and agree. After all I'm pretty sure removing their legs means death anyway." The soulmon chuckled. This was perfect he at least had one of his ingredients. And perhaps a future assistant. Though he did seem wary of the old soul.
"Manners of course. You know its family tradition to introduce oneself even to those they are going to kill. Makes them fear the name. I could blabber all day about fear," The soulmon smiled. "Anyway my name is Elias, and do please lead the way...." Soulmon motioned for the tapirmons name.

Bit looked pleased that he was going to get back at those Gekomon jerks. He recoiled when Elias gestured his way, though. It was reflex by now to not trust anyone. "Bit. My name is Bit. And they're this way. Follow me." Bit returned to the tree tops so that turning his back on Elias wouldn't be as big an issue. Even though Elias could fly, from his vantage point, Bit would be able to see him coming. He flitted through the branches until he found himself back at the clearing where the Otamamon and Gekomon were. The one he had tormented was still there, but it appeared she'd fallen asleep. All the better, Bit thought. He looked down at Elias and flicked his head in their direction, to show him where they were.

"Bit, such a cute little name," Soulmon said following him. Ahh, such a cautious creature. He couldn't help but to smile. He followed the little tapirmon as he went from tree to tree. Until finally he stopped his head motioning in a direction. How wonderful they were just out of sight.
"Hello, marsh-ians," Elias said smiling as he went through the bushes. They all froze in fear a moment. Then a few took battle stances. "Oh come now I mean no harm. I'm a travelling alchemist by the name of Elias," Elias says taking off his hat. "As an alchemist i make all sort of tinctures and cures. In fact I have one specifically for Geckomon. Free of charge since all I want back is your feedback on how I could make it better." Elias spoke fast as he pulled a vial out of his hat.
"Just rub this in and its like you are never out of the water. Go ahead give it a try," Elias boasts holding the vial out. The geckomon look to one another huddling slightly. They spoke briefly and one approached taking the vial. He sniffed it before pouring some on his hand and rubbing it into his chest. It grinned suddenly and turned to the rest each of them taking turns to coat themselves in the liquid.
"Make sure to go from tips of toes to crowns of head," Elias commented smiling. The otamamon watched curiously remaining by their friend. Once the vial was empty Elias put it back in his hat. "You enjoying it?" He asked. They all voiced pleasure and their skin shimmered. "It is like a natural watery shell. Just like the whites of eggs to keep you nice young and healthy. It also prevents data from disappearing immediately once it soaks in. One of my own designs. It took a very long time to perfect."
"Now then to buisness. I do apologize for this. But I need your legs," Elias said with a smile. He pulled out a large box from his hat. He sat it on the ground and overed towards them. In a panic they tried running only to slip and slip from the membrane. A ghostly hand came out slicing at the legs. The Gekomon tried resisting but with there lips so wet they couldn't blow their horns. The Otamamon fled in fright.
"One leg, two, three and four. And all the many more. I won't need frog legs for some time now," Soulmon said very pleased. The data started dissolving but became trapped in the membrane. He squished the membranes together and stuffed them in the plastic box. The data looking like glitter as it remained there.
"I truly am sorry, but you will die quite slowly now. It takes some time for the membrane to wear off in natural conditions. You may suffer for one or two days," Elias said smiling. "Small side effect really." He finished bputting his hat on his head. Now all he needed was salamandramon fire.
"I do hope you are satisfied young one," Soulmon said chuckling as he looked into the tree where Bit sat.

Bit watched with glee as Elias struck and maimed the Gekomon. Afterward, he smiled down at Elias as he asked if he was happy. "Yes, I am. Thank you." He looked down again at the scene and noticed the sleeping Otamamon was still there. She hadn't seemed to move, so Bit figured she slept through it. He tormented her enough, so left her alone, but he still had some unfinished business. As quietly as he could, he hopped down from the trees and hovered over to the Gekomon and their dying bodies, smiling.
"Remember me?" He said with a chuckle. This is why you don't mess with me. And, just to drive the point home, Nightmare Syndrome." He whispered as the smog spewed from his mouth and made its way to the noses and mouths of the helpless Gekomon. Should it work, their final hours would be filled with torment and fear.
Bit giggled to himself and floated off after Elias and into the bushes. Without waiting for the ghost, he made his way through the trees and bushes. He seemed to have suddenly lost himself and was giggling louder and louder, becoming more demonic each time. In minutes, his cackling turned to sobs, and he fell to the ground, his legs materializing as he curled up into a ball on the swampy ground. What had he done? This is exactly what happened to him and how he lost Echo.
"Echo!!!! I'm sorry!! What have I done?!?!" He cried and yelled to no one. He didn't notice or care if Elias was still near him. He had forgotten all about him. He laid on the ground and just cried and cried for what seemed like hours, but was more realistically a matter of minutes.

Ahh, a true tormented and demonic soul like his own. It was refreshing to say the least. A delight to find someone like him in a place like this all his giggling was contagious. Elias couldn't help but to also laugh as he floated away with bit in tow.
Little did they know the poor otamamon had been frozen in fright. She had heard it all but couldn't move. Listening to the screams of her tormented friends. Well until her friends had returned with help. By then the pair were long gone. And she couldn't speak or move.
"Oh what is this," Elias said stopping as Bit lay on the wet ground crying. "Come how chin up. Guilt is but a fleeting emotion in the myriad of emotions not unlike most of them." Elias hovered over Bit his body and head tilting to one side. "Echo is loved correct? Ahh, the heartbreak of love is fascinating. perhaps I should collect your tears can never have too many tears of heart break."
"But I get ahead of myself," the Soulmon waved it off. "I need no more tears right now. Right now I need Salamandramon fire. Just have to find some scorched trees to mark it territory. Come now up up young BitYou have come this far might as well see what I'm making yes," Elias questioned hoping to give his young companion something to look forward to.

Bit jumped out of his skin when Elias spoke, having forgotten all about him. His bottom half returned to its smoky state and he took to the trees again before remembering what was going on. He slowly returned to the ground.
"Mind your own damn business about Echo. You know NOTHING about him!" Bit yelled at him. I just have never done anything like that before. I'm not a killer. That's the opposite of what I want. I hate everyone, but I didn't think I could kill. I feel sick." Bit wondered why he was telling a stranger all this. It was against his nature.
"Forget all that. I already told you I don't know anything about a Salamandramon. I've never seen one around here. Now will you quit bothering me. I have....things to do." Bit trailed off. He really had no idea what to do next. He hadn't found any clues to Echo's whereabouts in months.

"So ferocious," Elias laughed. "So be it if you do not wish to accompany to accompany me I do suppose I should thank you for leading me to those geckomon." He fiddled with his hat a bit digging around in it. "Ah here it is. Use it sparingly hmm?" He said holding out the vial as the hat was plopped back onto his head.
"It is a healing tincture. Perfect for anything from blisterworts to missing limbs," Elias said smiling. "Perhaps we shall meet again young Bit. Your anger could bring you to my towers step one day."
The soulmon started floating away leaving the tincture wither he accepted it directly or not. He wouldn't blame him if he left it there. After all seeing his last concoction was probably far from encouraging.

Bit took the vial after Elias was out of sight, and tucked it away. He just sat there in silence for several minutes thinking about what to do next. He didn't think he wanted to be alone anymore. He looked out in the direction that Elias went in and decided to follow him for now, but without him knowing. He was curious was he was up to. He jumped up into the tree tops and floated silently above him, hoping to remain undetected.

Elias wandered the swamp lands for some time. Til he found a thick mist. The soulmon seemed happy and content all the while. He didn't get a apprentace but that was okay. Especially now. Mist meant water in the air and water in the air meant it was being evaporated. Not to mention the trees were looking a little bare!
"Finally," Elias exclaimed. It was a ripe habitat for a Salamandramon. He became giddy with excitement as he moved about through the mist floating a bit higher and higher to look for shadows on the ground. His attention was far from looking behind him and noticing Bit.
