Miles felt the weight through his legs and in his arms. He gritted hs teeth as he tried to push himself to the brink of his limit. His arms felt like the ramen noodles he often ate. His mentality shifted to the strain he was feeling and he began to lose focus. He held his breath a moment to try to keep his strength up but the thought 'I can't' crossed his mind and he closed his eyes dropping the board to the floor.
He let his arms hang and nearly collapsed panting hard. His body was hot from the workout and he wished he actually had sweat glands or less fur to cool his pink skin underneath. "Again," He heard Talia say, he looked to her and stood. He wasn't looking for pity and he didn't get it from Talia, this training showed how little he actually had come and with every failure he became more determined.
He shook out the remaining strain in his limbs and grabbed the board and took a deep breath in preperation for the weights. He still felt the exhaustion in his muscles, he wondered if he'd be able to succeed at this rate.
"Think of each part of this training as fights in the arena. You won one battle but you just lost two to the same foe. It was at different times sure but what do you need to do to win? Think about it." Miles listened to the words she spoke and considered them. He wasn't really sure, he had yet to box anyone. What did he need to do? Was this training a key? The strain was just so much, he couldn't focus on the answer.

Once more the board dropped and Talia just shook her head. They couldn't spend all day on a single training. They would have to return to it later. She moved away allowing him time to rest. She grabbed a water bottle off the table and tossed it at him.
"You aren't going to complete it right now. Your arms are too weak. We'll return to it later," Talia said watching him. Once enough time had passed she motioned him to follow her to a low beam. She helped him up to sit on it.
"Hang by your knees and do sit ups. I want one-hundred and twenty," Talia said. she would sit down and begin mentally counting.

Miles lasted even less then the last one, he just couldn't get past this limit. The board and weights fell and so did he. He fell on all fours and breathed heavily, "So...this is my limit huh?" Miles reflected on the training and scoffed at his own shortcomings. He had underestimated this training even after completing the first course he was too confident. "I have to do better!" He exclaimed.
"You aren't going to complete it right now. Your arms are too weak. We'll return to it later," Miles looked up just in time to see the water bottle. He fumbled it a bit before catching it and taking a sigh of relief. He undid the cap and quenched his unnoticed thirst. He drank it half way before happily sighing and closing the cap.
Miles stood up and looked at Talia motioning him to follow. He looked back at his failed training and glared at it, "I'll conquer it next time for sure." He said before running over to meet with her. She helped him up onto the low beam and he looked questioningly at her. He had no idea what it was he was supposed to do with it.
"Hang by your knees and do sit ups. I want one-hundred and twenty," Miles looked surprised at her. Upside down sit ups? He had done sit ups before but this was a first, he hesitated a moment but didn't want to question Talia's methods. He nodded at her and began to do it. It didn't seem to hard...in the beginning anyway.

"One-eighteen, one-nineteen, one-twenty," Talia said. He had done it and she watched with a wince as he suddenly fell off the bar. Well he did it though so she would count it as a win. "Well at least you did it pup.....you alright," she asked. Fall like that could break necks if not landed right.

Miles had begun to pant heavily when he had reached eighty of these sit-ups. He was tired and the strain on his core was painful, he could feel himself slowing down when he had passed one hundred. All he heard was Talia counting and so he just concentrated on the next one. He left his mind empty and just focused on the task, he wouldn't fail a second time.
"One-eighteen." He heard her count, had he really come this far? His body was burning and his muscles felt twisted. He wanted to stop and just fall flat and melt into mush but he was so close. "One-nineteen." He heard her call next but something went wrong on the way down. He could feel it when his body came to its resting position that it had had it. It wouldn't move any farther, it was tired and beaten and gave up. His legs were trembling and barely hanging to the bar, they wanted to slide off and be done with it.
He couldn't let that happen...just one more and he would have conquered this difficult training. Move body! Move! He demanded in his head. He closed his eyes and clenched his teeth tightly and forced himself to do one final push. Slowly, he rose to meet the one hundred twentieth. It felt so far away as he rose up and yet he knew if he stopped, he'd fall and fail. It was make it or break it. Onward he thought, he got stuck halfway and let out a powerful grunt to give him the extra push.
"One-twenty," He heard Talia say and that was it. He had reached his goal and his mind matched his body and down he fell to the floor below with a thud. The pain of the impact paling in comparison to the pain in his legs, arms and core. In fact, he didn't even feel it. His tongue hung outside his mouth and off to the side and he panted to try desperately to cool his body. The inability to produce sweat was a nuisance in his line of work.
"Well at least you did it pup.....you alright," He heard her say, he opened up an eye and in between deep pants he spoke, "I totally won." He said and raised a paw giving a thumb up. He chuckled and dropped his paw to his chest, "I'm not sure my body can move..." He said wiggling his toes and fingers.

"Well I did push you quite a bit I suppose a break is in order. I'll go fetch us dinner while you rest," Talia said heading for the door. Talia was going to Chief's for the ramen. It left him to relax as he wanted. Although it may take him awhile to get up off the floor.
After awhile she returned with a few bags and set them on one of the tables. She place out the cups of ramen and sat down taking to her own food. "You feeling any better now," she questioned.

"Well I did push you quite a bit I suppose a break is in order. I'll go fetch us dinner while you rest," Miles stomach gurgled at the mention of dinner, "I would like that very much." He said his panting finally slowing as he laid there and became more relaxed.
Talia had left and Miles was alone laying on the mat, his body giving in to fatigue and in the silence of the run down dojo, he fell asleep with a silent snore. He dreamed of taking on the junior champion in the arena, picturing himself overly fit. To the point where it seemed a bit silly. He was in the twelfth and final round, his family was in the front row cheering him on. His dad was the loudest and his voice carried strength empowering Miles. Time was running down and Miles felt as good as ever, the Gotsumon seemed in rough shape.
"Seems like I'll be the new champion after all!" His dream version spoke with a much deeper and sexier tone, "I'll show you my strongest punch! The punch trained by my coach!" Miles turned to wink at Talia, who for some reason had a mustache and beard and seemed liked a groggy old man. "No way! How could the son of the great Miles be so strong? I am no match!" The Gotsumon said, Miles dropped his hands to his waist and laughed. "I'm glad you realize that you stand in front of greatness! Now taste my winning knuckle!" An attack his father had in his form but not a punch that existed for a child like Gaomon, though a dream will be a dream after all.
Miles punched the Gotsumon in the head and knocked him out being declared the winner. His family cheered and rushed the ring climbing into it, "You've won! Good job Miles!" Elanor called out. "You were okay...nothing impressive." Lia said, Miles glared at her and his intense stare aged Lia to the point of a hobbling old lady. "Non believers shan't stand in front of me! Champion!" Lia looked to Miles, "Yessss oh great one!" The toothless aged cat said. "Junior! You are by far the greatest boxer I have ever raised! You're my favorite child!" Miles looked to his father and lifted him with a finger, "Thanks dad! It's all thanks to you and Todd!" Talia's dream version walked over, "You were the best student I ever had! I am so honored!" Todd said.
"Yes! Let us all go celebrate!" Miles chuckled walking out of the arena with his family.
Talia had walked in an yet to notice the happily sleeping pup, drooling all over himself. "You feeling any better now," She would ask but would get no response. Instead she'd hear faint sleep talk, "I'm...the champ....thanks....Todd..." He mumbled.

Who the heck was Todd? This pup had some imagination she'd give him that. She shook her head and ate. Let him sleep til hunger got him up she surmised. Afterwards she began cleaning up. It was obvious this pup had to do some real training. The gym only did so much. She contemplated taking him to a sparring session but decided against it. If he could improve within the week she would. After all she had promised him the arena in a few months. She figured if he continued pushing himself he might just make it.

Miles eventually came too from his slumber, raising to a seated position. He rubbed his eyes and looked around with a yawn, "Something smells good......" He said picking up the scent of the ramen. When he saw it sitting on the table his tail began to wag and a glimmer appeared in his eyes. He jumped up and ran to the table and took a deep whiff of the scent before eating it, "Thanks Todd.......uh..I mean......Talia! Ahem." He turned a slight red, accidentally remembering the man version he dreamed up.
"So, um....after this...are we finished? Am I able to fight now?" He asked.

Talia raised an eyebrow at his mix up but said nothing. Strange pup indeed. "No you aren't ready. You were exhausted after just this. You wouldn't last three rounds in the ring with a constitution like that. You do this training every day for a week then I'll take you sparring. After that comes the ring," she answered bluntly.
"May jump right in. Some win but most lose. Slow and steady wins the race pup. Focus on making yourself the best you can be and don't worry about titles or trophies. Those can only come after you are the best you can be."

You do this training every day for a week then I'll take you sparring. After that comes the ring," Miles figured it was a long shot. He did only just start after all. He finished his ramen and rubbed his belly.
"May jump right in. Some win but most lose. Slow and steady wins the race pup. Focus on making yourself the best you can be and don't worry about titles or trophies. Those can only come after you are the best you can be."
Miles nodded, "Yea...it'd be nice to win a few trophies but I really just want people to see my passion and drive using these fists. Dad said respect is more important in the ring than a championship. That's all I'm really looking too do." Miles pulled away from the table and jumped off his chair.
"I wonder if my parents are worried about me...it has been some time since I left home. I wonder what they would say too me." Miles said feeling a bit homesick, "I miss them a bit....but this is the choice I made...I have to see it through." Miles said looking at Talia.
"I have been wondering something else though, why didn't you recruit anyone before me? It was by chance we met right? So how come you haven't gotten anyone else?" Miles wondered.

Talia knew he would ask this question sooner or later. She sighed and leaned back in her chair. It was quite the story she had to tell.
"I was going to wait til you were a bit older to explain in length. However one should know the whole story.
"I had a husband once an ogremon. He of course came from a family of bandits like most of his kind but he just wanted to fight. He became a boxer a good one at that. He fought your father a couple of times before your fathers retirement. His name was Gordias but everyone called him the Ogre," She gave a half smile in remembrance. They meant it to be mean but he had taken pride in the name. Said that yeah he was an ogre and if they didn't watch out he'd get them. He would chase the neighborhood kids a bit but he never harmed them. She always had thought he would make a wonderful father.
"After your fathers retirement he went straight for the belt. He fought Ronin head on. Thing was he couldn't beat Miles unlike Ronin who had. He reached to high and was pummeled for it. He suffered massive injuries to his skull. After that he wasn't quite right in the head. I cared for him like any wife. He had changed though and not for the better. He would punch the bags all day in a daze if I let him. He broke them all one by one one day and I had to take to get them serviced. I only had to leave for a few minutes. When I returned he was on the ground with bloody and broken hands. There had been no bags so he had used the wall instead.
"His hands were ruined and after that I had to care for him twenty-four seven. I washed him, fed him, clothed him and in the end one night even with crippled hands he managed to grab a knife in the kitchen and slit his own throat. Boxing was no longer his and he could no longer fight for himself let alone his life," Talia stared at the table sadly.
"That is the reason I had you make that promise. After that I stopped training as well. Told myself as much as I love boxing I would never lead someone down that same path. This place became a simple gym rather than a boxing gym after that. Once people realized I wouldn't teach them they slowly filtered away. A few come in now and again to use the equipment but rarely. Until you that is," Talia said smirking slightly even though her gaze didn't leave the table.
"I agreed because you are Miles son. Even after realizing your weak paws I knew with your drive you just might do it. I want to see you as a champion not just out of revenge but to realize a dream my husband and I had to stand on that pedestal. Even if I never set foot there myself to train one who does. It would be a sense of accomplishment. If anyone can do it will be the son of the former champion Miles Jr. the Little Hound Dog," Talia said chuckling at the last part.

"I was going to wait til you were a bit older to explain in length. However one should know the whole story." Wait till he was older? He wondered why, was it something he couldn't handle now?
"I had a husband once an ogremon. He of course came from a family of bandits like most of his kind but he just wanted to fight. He became a boxer a good one at that. He fought your father a couple of times before your fathers retirement. His name was Gordias but everyone called him the Ogre," She gave a half smile in remembrance. "They meant it to be mean but he had taken pride in the name. Said that yeah he was an ogre and if they didn't watch out he'd get them. He would chase the neighborhood kids a bit but he never harmed them." Miles knew that Ogremon, he never was much of a match for his father. Always losing in the fifth round or sooner. So that was Talia's husband?
"After your fathers retirement he went straight for the belt. He fought Ronin head on. Thing was he couldn't beat Miles unlike Ronin who had. He reached to high and was pummeled for it. He suffered massive injuries to his skull. After that he wasn't quite right in the head. I cared for him like any wife. He had changed though and not for the better. When I returned he was on the ground with bloody and broken hands. There had been no bags so he had used the wall instead."
Miles frowned at the story, he had no idea that such a strong fighter could fall so far. Was it because he was struck to hard in the head? Ronin did have a strong hook, it was the punch that put his father into retirement. In the sixth round, Ronin took advantage of Miles slowing reaction and with one strong punch knocked Miles out. The next day he announced his retirement. He was to old to compete professionally anymore.
"His hands were ruined and after that I had to care for him twenty-four seven. I washed him, fed him, clothed him and in the end one night even with crippled hands he managed to grab a knife in the kitchen and slit his own throat. Boxing was no longer his and he could no longer fight for himself let alone his life," Miles looked horrified, his eyes opening wide and his mouth falling open.
It would be a sense of accomplishment. If anyone can do it will be the son of the former champion Miles Jr. the Little Hound Dog,"
So Talia was trying to live her and her late husbands dream through him? That seemed like an awful lot of pressure. All Miles wanted to do was box, what came with it was just a bonus but now...wait...did she say little hound dog?
"I'm not a hound dog...I'm a wolf. Can't my fighter name be something like wolf fang or something? Or maybe I can share my dads nickname. Miles the Blue Beast? I could be the Blue Wind cause I'm fast!" He said with a chuckle. "Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about Gordias, he was a strong boxer my dad said. He just lacked something he would say..." Miles smiled and clenched a fist, punching with considerable speed. "If I can Talia, I'll use this fist to make your dream come true because you're helping mine! I swear it on my fist!" Miles said with a wide toothy smile.

Talia smiled slightly at his refusal at being a hound dog. It faded as he promised on his fist to make her dream come true. She shook her head a bit and smiled once more though. He was still so young he didn't realize what he had been promising.
"Well then Blue Wind you still need more training but as I see it you only passed out and not broke down crying. Better than I expected. I bet we will have you in that ring within the month just like you said," Talia said smirking as she leaned forward.
"Now then ready to do it all over again for a week?"

"Now then ready to do it all over again for a week?"
Miles nodded, "Yea you know I am! Just one thing, I'd like you and I to go to my home. I want my dad to meet the woman who is going to make me champion! Also Talia...I'd like to ask him to sponsor you. My dad is wealthy and has a lot of connections. I want you to become known again...and honor what you have done for both your husband and for me. My dad always said a good soul should reap good fortune. Plus, they should know I'll be taking my first official match in a month!" Miles said with another chuckle.
"What do you say?" Miles asked with an innocent stare.
