Personality: Shang is very disciplined and can be cruel. He puts his country before his allies. He is very straightforward.
Background: Shang is the descendant of Jianliang Lee. Shang lived in Japan with the other descendants of the original heroes. He was very close to Takumo Matsuda and Rina Makino, Takato and Rukis descendants respectively. Although Shang lived in Japan, he often visited his family who resided in China. He would spend all winter with his family there and the rest of the year he'd be in Japan. His grandmother often talked about Shang's ability to be a tamer and how powerful he and his partner, Terriermon truly were and that they would do great good for China. These words often resonated in Shang's mind, and intensified when he learned that China had begun kidnapping it's country's tamers and forcing them into militant services. It wasn't long before Shang was taken by the Chinese government. He could've easily escaped given his ability as a tamer but wanted to see exactly what China was up to. He was taken to a black site, deep in the heart of China and was escorted with Terriermon into a holding area. He kept to himself the entire three hours he had been there, thinking solemnly. Soldiers eventually came for him and brought him into a dimly lit room where he found his father sitting across from him.
Shang was very surprised to learn that his father had been a spy for the Chinese government and stationed in Japan. They exchanged words and Shang's father explained to him that his son could help China unite the world under it's banner, ending strife globally. That China was interested in making him one of it's key military officers and he would want for nothing. Shang was hesitant as he had a duty as a chosen one to uphold. He was later released from that place with the offer still available. Shang and Terriermon talked at length about this proposition and Shang had earned Terriermon's favor. That no matter what Shang should decide he'd be by his side till their dying day. A few days later, Shang learned of the invasion of Japan and still being in China; rushed back to see his friends. When he arrived he learned that four chosen heroes had already been killed for their resistance. Takumo, Rina and Shang had gone to see the rest of the descendants who all agreed that they had to fight to bring this war to a halt. A few of them had gone to the Digital World to try to gain favor with the digimon so that they would help them in this war. Shang and his friends stayed behind to keep watch of the worlds affairs and intervene anywhere should they need too. Shang spoke to Takumo and Rina and tried to say that perhaps joining their country in uniting the world isn't as bad as it looks. That if everyone was under one flag that it would certainly end conflict. Shang was scolded by his friends and so Shang kept quiet. The Digital World agreed to assist the humans and the tamers decided to assist the American Federation which was the last line of defense against the new Eurasian Republic conquering the planet.
The idea to build the Gunslinger Satellite was proposed to help the American Federation and that it would greatly turn the tide to the resistance's favor, and so the heroes and digimon warriors began it's construction. Near it's completion, a strategy meeting was held to determine how Gunslinger would be used, and it was proposed by Tokio Kamiya; the leader of the heroes, to aim it at Beijing and deal a mortal blow to the Eurasian Republic. Shang was against this as Beijing was where his family lived. Gunslinger would erase Beijing off of the planet should this plan succeed. The heroes took a vote which ended in favor of using Gunslinger to obliterate Beijing. Shang was told that he'd have three hours to get his family out of the city once the timeline for firing the satellite was complete. Shang bitterly excepted the reality that he was out matched and deeply wounded that his closest allies had counted his family as nothing and voted against him. Word eventually reached the Gunslinger that the Eurasian Republic's front line had invaded Mexico and was making it's way towards the heart of the Federation and so they prepared the Gunslinger to fire. After the devastation, the Republic quickly amassed a bomb to destroy Gunslinger as it charged for it's next attack. The heroes were tasked with defending Gunslinger and took their positions outside, Shang biomerging to Cherubimon. The odds were against the heroes ten to one but despite the difference in numbers, they proved more powerful then the soldiers tasked with delivering the bomb to Gunslinger.
After a few moments of fighting, Shang looked around the battlefield at his countrymen being slain by his friends and the realization that they were winning and that Gunslinger would destroy Beijing. At that critical point in time, Shang made the decision to defect to the Eurasian Republic and made it known by putting his hand through the unsuspecting Takumo's heart, while he was in his biomerged state. Takumo wept as the life fled from his body and his digimon dissipated and Shang wept as well as he looked at his blood stained hands. Cherubimon's virtuous body blackened. Shang's betrayal made little difference, as the heroes were still far more powerful and Shang was kept occupied by Rina and Yoshino Ishida; Yamato Ishida's descendant. Defeat was at hand as Shang witnessed Tokio flying towards the polyhedron to destroy it safely. In an act of rage, Shang used his power to send one final attack towards the bomb, his attack was misread by his opponents believing it was aimed at them and as a result, the bomb prematurely detonated with Shang barely escaping the blast zone. When he turned around, all of his former allies were gone and half of his countrymen, and Gunslinger that had fired, fired off center and consumed it's own allies in the blast. Severely fatigued, Shang and the Eurasian troops retreated.
Shang was met with the highest honors and the council granted him the status of Commander General. Shang would become the Eurasian Republic's most powerful digimon tamer, recognized the world over. It wasn't until a few weeks after the war that he learned of Sanji's survival and his creation of W.A.D.A.. Through the years, the Republic lapsed behind W.A.D.A. in terms of strength and technological prowess as it collected tamers the world over. The Republic only recently created a version of W.A.D.A.'s digisoul which Shang wields masterfully. Shang wept silently when he learned that Sanji died as the last of his past had died with him. With no more friends, Shang's consciousness was clear and serves the Republic to this day with an iron fist.
